Mendeley Desktop is supported under Windows 8, but not Windows RT. If you’re planning to buy a Windows-based tablet and you want to run Mendeley on it, get one running Windows 8 (not Windows RT). We’re not planning to work on a ‘Metro’ app ourselves in the near future.

it is very disappointing that the Mendeley group have completely refused to come up with an app for RT. Is because they are working with iOS companies. But I would really be happy to see an RT app for Mendeley.

I have been forced to use another program to organize my files since I can not use Mendeley on my Microsoft Surface RT. It is a huge pity, I love your system so much. I spent an unfortunate amount of time organizing my files just to find out you only support iOS systems. This was very disappointing. It is just no use to me if I can only access it on my home desktop and iPhone. Being an extremely busy professional student, my tablet is where most of the action happens and I know I am not alone in this boat.

A Windows 8 app would be fantastic. Snapping Mendeley to the side while working in the main part of the screen would be a great productivity improvement. Furthermore, it would be great if the app would work on Windows RT as well. The Surface 2 and Nokia Lumia 2520 are really nice little tablets and I would really like to use mine to read some papers and add comments.

There is an alternative solution, at least for the people who use Mendeley to cite in their papers. I think it is easier for you to develop your current MS Word plug in.
I copied the plugin file that Mendeley Desktop installs on Microsoft Word to the startup folder of my tablet. Everything is fine but I think since the plugin retrieves the bibliography information from the desktop app it fails to insert citations.
I think if you could change it in a way that it retrieves information from my library (which is accessible through web) rather than the desktop app, it will resolve the plugin issue that is inserting citations from my libraries.
That way one can use the browser interface to manage the libraries and use the plugin for citing material.

Considering the surface is the only affordable tablet that runs full office, mendeley would make it the perfect device for students and academics

I would love to have Mendeley available for my RT. It's a fantastic software, but I will have to switch if there isn't going to be a Metro app available. I love this program so please, please develop it for RT.

Please reconsider! Mendeley is a fantastic way to manage pdfs... I don't use it to cite in word, but to organise and take notes on journal articles. An RT version would be perfect... I'd hate to have to switch.

It's absolutely necessary!! Please do the app for Windows RT.

I'm also using Windows RT and it is absolutely a shame having to change the software that I'm using because we don't have a compatible version. Moreover, when this version will be compatible with all windows 8 systems, including new metro apps.
Now we are forced to move to other program and I hope you'll be able to see the importance of this issue and try to solve it.

i am a PhD student from Malaysia and currently relying heavily on Mendeley for my work... it is sad to hear that Mendeley is not planning to work on RT..
Kindly reconsider for this app as it is a moving trend in Malaysia (with Microsoft's strong current positioning among lecturers and university students)...

I agree with what appears to be the vast majority of people who use Mendeley and own a windows touchscreen device. An app is definitely required which can utilise pen functionality. Touchscreen interfaces are fast becoming the predominant method for computational productivity, software which does not follow this trend will be left behind unfortunately. Not to mention the added value it gives to Mendeley..

Have just tried Mendeley desktop on a 10" Windows 8 tablet. Interacting with it is very difficult via the touchscreen.
Please don't dismiss the idea of a metro app on the grounds that Windows RT is currently not very popular. A metro app will be very useful for Windows 8 tablet or convertible laptop too.

Does Mendeley know of any third party apps (current or in development) for Windows RT?
Does Mendeley allow third party apps?
I love the surface RT and I love Mendeley, would like to have both.
Craig Savage commented
I would like a app, Mendeley please think about it. Is it too hard as third party plug ins are not allowed in windows office rt, then let us know (even if it was just a program what did not cite into word, would be great to have off-line PDFs searchable that better than web base mendeley search). I now searching for a referencing program to work with windows office RT....I love Mendeley. Hope things change

Mendeley, please wake up to see the demand and future. Windows RT and Metro apps are the future, just like iPad three years ago. Surface RT and other windows RT tablets are perfect for productivity with the built-in Office suites. It is perfect for me to work on the road. That's why Microsoft sold over 1 million within 6 months even with the overwhelming market penetration iPad has gathered in the past three years. I bought three Surface RTs and my 10-year old prefers his Surface to iPad when he needs to work on his homework and school projects. The 20-year old desktop interface will be history like DOS, modern natural UI is the future.

I would pay good $$ for Mendeley on Surface RT
I used Mendeley during 5 years, paying a storage plan but I'm now using a Surface tablet and decided to stop my subscription because the software not user friendly. An app would help me to change my mind.

I'd really like to have a Surface (pro) App with pen support!!

I have a Surface Pro, and I love taking notes on pdfs with the pen. Mendeley is not user friendly on the surface pro. I would love a metro app!
