In-program PubMed search & Metadata Retrieval
An in-program browser where users can go to PubMed (or a specific Journal's website) and search an article. On downloading it, Mendeley will automatically extract the Metadata and possibly archive the file.
Seeing some of the possibilities for this at the moment, I would be quite keen to get this implemented. It has been raised with our Developers.

Hello - The next release of Mendeley Desktop includes integrated search of the Mendeley catalog, which is a first step to making PubMed data available directly from the app. See https://twitter.com/MendeleyTips for more info.

i'll definitely be very excited if this feature is implemented in mendeley, it will make the program "perfect"

I too strongly support Pubmed searching from within Mendeley. I presume this hasn't been implemented yet because the organization is trying to drive traffic through their website and build the community. But I expect that this only serves to drive a sizable market away from Mendeley toward more user friendly services.

Definitle "must be" function! I am actually surprised that this is not implemented or started yet. Jabref and Bibus are less advanced/user friendly than Mendeley and still they let PubMed and other database search using key words, author and so on. I strongly vote for this!

The lack of this feature is why I am considering BUYING Endnote instead of using Mendeley. Considering how many researchers use Pubmed daily, and how crucial it is, it would be wise of the developers to implement it. I understand you guys have a small team, but this is a very important database you guys are not supporting. You could even charge users for this feature, or incorporate it into a premium membership and it would be much much cheaper than endnote. Just sayin...

Pubmed has got a powerful search engine. A giant improvement would be already if the Mendeley would recognize the PMID number.

I would vote for this as the top priority. I can go to 'Online Search' in Bookends and put in some general search terms and import 50 relevant papers in one go. I'm surprised Mendeley has nothing similar. It really reduces the utility of the program as a referencing tool.

Can't believe that this feature still hasn't been implemented and it has been 4 years since it was first suggested

Just tried both Mendely and Papers -- and chose Papers because of this feature.
Particularly in high-breadth fields (biosciences), the direct search and importation is critical.

C'mon, Papers does this already for ages, even Endnote!

If Mendeley integrate this feature, it will beat all other competitors.

Please... To me, this is the feature that would make me confident 100% when suggesting this program either to my doctors or to my colleagues.
