I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. ` sign issue

I noticed that the ` symbol (in the same key as the ~ sign) created a problem with extraction of the title. Can this be fixed? Every thing before the ` sign gets sent to the end of title. For example: A study of the dec`ollement strength of fold-thrust belts, reads as, `ollement strength of fold-thrust belts A study of the dec

  2. New citation style

I study at the University of Essex, UK. I am studying Occupational Therapy. Our department uses the 'School of Health and Human Sciences referencing style' which is adapted from Harvard but with minimal punctuation. Would it be possible to add this to your repertoire?

  3. Mendeley doest not abbreviate the journal name in citation style for "Biogeosciences" not following the journal specification.

Mendeley doest not abbreviate the journal name in citation style for the journal "Biogeosciences" , i,e., not following the journal specification.

    for example:
Getzin, S., Wiegand, K., Schumacher, J. and Gougeon, F. A.: Scale-dependent competition at the stand level assessed from crown areas, Forest Ecology and Management, 255(7), 2478–2485, doi:10.1016/j.foreco.2008.01.007, 2008.

    should be as:

Getzin, S., Wiegand, K., Schumacher, J. and Gougeon, F. A.: Scale-dependent competition at the stand level assessed from crown areas, For. Ecol. Manage., 255(7), 2478–2485, doi:10.1016/j.foreco.2008.01.007, 2008.

The journal name is coming in full. But the journal "BIOGEOSCIENCES" abbreviates the name for journals using Thomson ISI. …

  4. that when an article is open, there is a window the the reference link with hyperlinks to find the artcles on the internet

I decided to use only Mendeley, but there are still many advantages using readcube, so I really suggest developers to test READCUBE. One of the usefull things in readcube is that when you open an article, inmediately there is a list of the references with hyperlink. I you have the cited article you can open it by clicking on the hyperlink, if not, you are sent to the web brower to the page you can download it.

  7. Jump to specific document search result.

After a document search the results are highlighted and there is the possibility to browse the results via "Previous" and "Next" button. However, you can't jump to a specific result (specified, e.g., by a number). I suggest the following simple features:

    - possibility to jump to a specific search result by number input (similar to acroread)

    - besides "Previous" and "Next", add ">>" and "<<" to skip maybe 10 results

    - add a button to jump to the very first result

  8. allow custom bibliography for individual files.

For example, an online work may mention that they have a citation style preference. Create another field in 'details' where a custom bibliography can be entered. If the field is not blank, whatever is there is used, regardless of document type and bibliography style. Basically just a hard overwrite for bibliography format.

  9. Folders within the group visible also on the Web

It is possible to add folders to a group in Mendeley Desktop, but they are not visible on the Web.

Tags could serve a similar purpose as folders, but a) not all tags are shown on the right of the paper list (Web); and b) tags do not seem to work very well. Not all papers with the tag are shown when clicking on the tag.

  10. Cisco Ironport

I have a problem connecting with Mendeley desktop via our firewall/proxy. We have Cisco Ironport which is a proxy and also a firewall. It decrypts all the ssl traffic to detect malicious code there too. To do so it inserts its own certificate as "man in the middle". Mendeley is receiving ssl connection with "wrong" certificate. All browsers are also complaining and don't want to connect until you install CA certificate of Ironport into system's certificate store. Is Mendeley Desktop checking certificates and/or certificate storež?

  12. JSTOR

Mendeley cannot recognize pdfs downloaded from JSTOR, which is a principal database of articles in economics. In particular, Mendeley always takes the year of downloading to be the publication year of the paper.

JSTOR contains papers in the most renowned journals in Economics. If Mendeley can recognize pdfs from JSTOR, more economists will found Mendeley attractive.

  14. have a way to rank papers

I think it would be great if you could have a way to indicate which citations are best or most relevant -- like maybe with a star system, or labels. Labels would be fantastic, because then you could have a RCT label, a RD label, a quasi-experimental label, etc. and you could quickly see which papers/citations fall under each label!

  15. Block select screen-shot / Copy feature

A block select screenshot / "Copy" feature would be super useful when working with Graphs and images while making notes.

I often find myself copying images/graphs from a pdf into other documents as i make my notes or to help me to construct/gather my ideas.

  16. Fix google scholar impoert.

Looks great but seems it doesn't work for google scholar imports (shows 'cant detect bibliogr. metadata). But pubmed import works well.

  18. Could the content in the abstract be bold ?

I believe that the bold words in the abstract might be more direct and easy for the users of the Desktop.

  19. allow voting in the Support Portal

Like ideas in this forum are voted upon, allow questions and bugs in the Support Portal to also be voted upon until the question has a solution or the bug has been fixed. This will allow both groups, Support and end users, to get a sense of how many people are experiencing that question or bug.

Also suggest you distinguish between questions and bugs, by allowing them to be tagged when entered so that searches can be filtered by selecting the appropriate tag or with syntax like "bug: text not highlighting" and "question: how do I highlight text" (or shortcut…
