Annotation on iPad
Allow for highlighting and annotating in the iPad app. (Eventually iPhone would be nice too, but less crucial.)
I am using iPad and Mendeley lite, and I'm feeling terrible inconvenience that I can't either highlight nor annotate. Basically Mendeley desktop is a perfect tool for a researcher, so with these two abilities Mendeley lite would really enhance its usefulness. Thanks
Please allow for the highlights made in the desktop Mendeley program to be saved online. I would like to see what I highlighted in the pdf when I access the same pdf on my ipad as well. This is often done with other applications by flattening the pdf (saving the highlights into the pdf) on exiting in the desktop application.
This could either be in the form of an in-app tool or alternatively, enabling a PDF to be opened and annotated in a third party app such as GoodReader, and then saved back to Mendeley. This would make life so much easier!
ability to create new sticky notes and add present sticky notes within the iPad App
I love this function on the desktop app, but I also would like to be able to highlight lines in PDFs when I'm reading papers with my iPad.
I would use Mendeley everyday if I was able to annotate, highlight and extract citation information from PDFs ON MY IPAD. If I can then sync PDF's with my dropbox I would be sold completely.....I know a lot of my colleagues would as well....please please make this happen
I find myself reading my references most often on my iPad, but the highlighting and note-taking features are only in the desktop version of the app. These would be especially handy additions to the iPad Mendeley app.
Urgent need for a great connection between Mendeley desktop and ipad so that researchers can sync highlights and annotates both devices.
In order to really work with Mendeley PDF annotation is crucial. What we need is:
1. Drawing and circling of text
2. Add text to PDFs
3. Markup Text Options
a) Highlight Text (yellow)
b) Crossout Text (red)
c) Underline Text (green)
4. Individually customizable colors when annotating PDFs
5. Tag search function
6. A function to jump to a certain place in the PDF (e.g. introduction, abstract, references, summary, etc.)
7. Add handwritten signatures to it
8. Option to add handwritten notes via an external pen
Now I have to use external ipad pdf readers with annotation functions and import to Mendeley. This changes all the metadata, and is hard to restore...
it would be perfect to highlight a text using the ipad/iPhone App (some function like the pc/mac program)
please make the pdf reader in ipad mendeley just like the regular mendeley desktop (highlights, etc)
When the "open in" function is used, a temporary file is created in goodreader. So, when I add annotations to the file, they are only to the temporary file, which is not copied back to the original file in my Mendeley library. Perhaps, iAnnotate behaves differently. Otherwise, the "open in" is pretty much useless. Or, provide full annotation capabilities within Mendeley.
When you download an article from Mendeley for iPad or iPhone it comes unhighlighted, even thou you already highlighted it on your PC or Mac! Plus, It would be huge to be able to do so on iPad and iPhone!
I think it is very important to have the highlights and notes you make on article pdf files in the library to sync with the pdf files viewed in the iphone app. I imagine this should be possible because I thought the library file had these changes saved and that was the file I look at and download on the iphone app.
I’am sure I’am not the only one who would LOVE to see the annotations features implemented in the iOS, especially the iPad app. Yes, I am definitely willing to pay for such functionality! But beware: I found myself switching constantly between my computer at the desk and the iPad for long readings, so there should also be a way to easily sync the annotations between the two clients. Ideally without always resyncing the whole files.
It would be great if it was possible to read notes or even add notes to a pdf on iPhone. This would make referee work much easier.
I tried Mendeley on iPod touch. But I can't read with adding "Highlight" and "Note". Please add these functions with synchronizing to desktop mendeley. That is mobile ebooks.
Quick update: We are currently in closed beta testing, and have decided that highlights/notes will be in our next release. Will update this thread when we know more.
We appreciate everyone’s patience!
yes please! this would be so helpful and necessary!
Come on! Such a great app for my academic library, but ohhhh sooooo useless for my iPad, where i need it for.....
Hopefully this will be integrated very soon, otherwise I will have to change provider. please come' on. How can your company grow if you completely ignore the mobile community!!!
Yep it's truly sad. Especially when you look at some of the products that are available out there for annotating. I highly recommend Goodnotes, which is the best deal going for annotating pdfs, imho. Set up your Mendeley to sync your pdfs from a Dropbox account, and then you can access them through Goodnotes for annotating. iAnnotate is also a good product from reviews I've read, although I haven't had a compelling reason to switch from Goodnotes, honestly.
And yes please Mendeley people... please get us an iPad app that works! I still can't even get it to load my pdfs.
Well guys I decided to buy iPad specifically for academic reading, I have Mendeley desktop and it didn't even occure to me that annotating may be missing on iPad. It kinda defeats the purpose of the project. As others pointed out - its super useless now.
I agree completely as well. This would make the IPad version a killer.

I would pay good money to be able to annotate on the Mendeley iPad app
very important feature!
I agree this is a key future, bought an iPad to avoid printing and taking papers with me, everything is super cool with Mendeley app except that if I can't annotate it gets suddenly super useless!
The highlighting would do for the moment, although integration with iAnnotate would be a plus. I would definitely pay for it and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
This feature is the most important one and it is still missing! At least you should sync and show the notes done with the desktop version
This has been asked for for a very long time, but it still hasn't been added. It is the one reason I don't use Mendeley and I wont until this feature is added. Annotation is the most important feature for any iPad viewer -- much more important than good indexing, group support, and other great features that Mendeley adds. What concerns me is that this app has been around for so long and this support has yet to be added. Part of it is of course the iPad's fault with its non-existant file system. The best way would of course be to annotate in a designated annotation program, of which there are many, and just have these annotations show up in Mendeley, but this is just wishful thinking I'm afraid.
Nevertheless, this is a feature that must be added for this app, and Mendeley in general, to be useful for me.

I agree. If I read pdfs on my tablet i want at least to highlight the text, otherwise the app is useless. also the note function should be included. thx!

As far as I'm concerned if you added this feature, a great app would be perfect. As long as the highlights and annotations migrated back to the desktop.

I used 3 of my 15 votes on this one. Please hire some people to work on the ios app. I'd be willing to pay for it!!!!
I think they will do it when we reach 1000 votes. :)
PLEASE! this is a MUST! It shouldn't be so hard for you guys! Bring it on!!!
This features a MUST for the app. Should have been included from the start as this allows users to actually use the app for its portability feature of having it on the iPad.

Still waiting for this one.
