I suggest you ...

allow tags to be deleted or renamed

I would like to be able to delete (or rename) tags from the tag list. In my case I discovered I had two tags the really meant the same thing, and had to delete the extra tag from each document where it was applied instead of just from the tag list itself.

as a workaround, you could search using the tag: operator, then batch-edit the tag field of all results.

If you have a deleted reference with a tag, this tag will continue to appear in the tag list. So, all you have to do is empty the trash in Mendeley desktop, thus only the tags that you want will be listed while you enter a new tag.

I agree that tags should not be case sensitive - another part of the interface which feels outdated.

would also be great if tags were clickable in the document citation. I see a tag, i click, i get the search results.

Also, i'd really like to be able to search for tags only. having many tags, the scrolling gets really annoying.

Is it possible to manage tags more easily in Mendeley. For example, i have often tags who mean the same or in different languages. It would be nice to get also the results of the other tags without remembering that I have more tags I have to check for.

Why are "My Tags" case sensitive? It's frustrating that I have to remember whether I capitalized the tag or not and I wind up creating extra tags as a result. Can we make these case insensitive?

I would really like the option to delete tags, not just replace them or change them. Managing tags is very difficult with Mendeley, and this is a huge drawback when you are working with colleagues in different parts of the world.

I just discovered something that solved this for me. In the "filter by my tags" box, I can drag the tag that is incorrect onto the tag that is correct. The incorrect tag disappears from the list.

a bug? i have documents that I purposely tagged with "2%" (without quotations marks). BUT i cannot filter by that tag, the result list is empty. Individual entries do have the "2%" tag. Other tags work fine.

If i could rename the tag to something that works, e.g. "02%", that would be a good enough work-around for me.
    thanks.

Oh, I see what happened. For some of my articles Mendeley mistakenly inserted author keywords as tags.

Adding to this - I have tags that I know I never created. It would be great if I could delete these tags.

When Mendeley imports .xml files it takes the 'label' field and turns it into a tag. As I used this field in Endnote as a file locator, I ended up with a gazillion tags with one entry each, Very annoying.

This functionality should be in the next release; we're looking into how to make it as intuitive as possible.
