COinS for Mendeley

ContextObjects in Spans, commonly abbreviated COinS, is a method of embedding ContextObjects in the HTML code of Web pages

Several Content Management Systems embed COinS:
The Zotero developers have built a WordPress plugin that embeds a COinS tag in each blog post, making relevant metadata visible to Zotero (post title, author, date, blog title, categories, and URL). (http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/wordpress).
Drupal gets COinS-Support with the Bibliography Module (http://drupal.org/project/biblio)

So every Website-Owner using Wordpress or Drupal would get an very simple way of embedding citation metadata.

The following Web sites make use of COinS:

* Citebase
* Copac
* HubMed
* Wikipedia
* WorldCat
* CiteULike

        As mentioned by ioverka - the COinS data is missing date and also publisher fields.

        thanks for adding COinS to Mendeley's record pages. However, the date information seem to be missing.

        Example: http://www.mendeley.com/research/properties-of-meg-tomographic-maps-obtained-with-spatial-filtering/

        source information on page:
        NeuroImage (2003)
        Volume: 19, Issue: 4, Pages: 1329-1336
        PubMed ID: 12948691

        COinS: <span class="Z3988" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&amp;rfr_id=info%3Asid%2Fmendeley.com%3Amendeley&amp;rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Ajournal&amp;rft.volume=19&amp;rft.issue=4&amp;rft.pages=1329-1336&amp;rft.atitle=Properties+of+MEG+tomographic+maps+obtained+with+spatial+filtering.&amp;rft.jtitle=NeuroImage&amp;rft.aulast=Gross&amp;rft.auinit1=J&amp;rft.genre=article&amp;rft.au=Timmermann%2C+L&amp;rft.au=Kujala%2C+J&amp;rft.au=Salmelin%2C+R&amp;rft.au=Schnitzler%2C+A">

        publication year ("rft.date=2003") is missing and you may consider to add the pmid as well ("rft_id=info%3Apmid%2F12948691").

        greetings,
        inga

        The bookmarklet should support COinS (like Zotero), so vote for my idea if you like to get citation metadata from sites like GBV (www.gbv.de), Springerlink or citeulike.

        Example for COinS:
        <span class="Z3988"

        rft.genre=book&amp;
        rft.btitle=Hallo+Welt&amp;
        rft.title=Hallo+Welt&amp;
        rft.aulast=Mustermann&amp;
        rft.aufirst=Max&amp;
        rft.au=Max+Mustermann&amp;
        rft.date=2005&amp;
