A good start would be to imply keep the citation details in sync.
If one now marks a document as reviewed, in the group, it keeps the status needs review in your personal library.

It seems that many of these requests are > 1 year old. This seems like a no-brainer and synching needs to automatic, not by document, but by document within an establised folder the mirrors the desktop documents.

I agree with some comments below that any implementation of this should take into account that many of us surely would like to keep certain notes/annotations private

Also some notes/annotations/tags may be relevant for one group but completely irrelevant (and confusing) within another group.

Therefore indiscriminate syncronisation of document tags/notes/annotations across private library and all groups that the document belongs to seems like a bad idea in my opinion.

This would be a key feature to keep citations in sync.

what about just checking the refs I have in my library and marking them if they belong to a group I am a member of. That way, I don't have to worry about adding duplicates to the group refs

    > what you can do is drag the updated copy from a shared group into your library and delete the older "out of date" version in order to bring your library up to date with the changes you and your colleagues made.

But what if we want to share a document that actually is on our library with notes and we need to share also the notes and highlights?

It wold be great if you provide an option like "copy highlights and notes".

    Hi Ben,

It is Mendeley that is missing this - we're looking into the best way to implement it.

I often add a document to MY LIBRARY then add highlights/notes. If I later choose to transfer this paper to GROUPS then it would be good if the highlights/notes went along with it.....but I cannot get that to work.....is it me or Mendeley that's deficient? Synchronization with public and private notes might fix that problem. It would be good if notes could be alternated between public/private if the need arose.

I agree with the suggestion to have "private" and "public" notes and highlights. It would be nice to be able to view either "public" or "private" or both within the article's one entry. Skipping back and forth between collections to do this is annoying.

    Hi Mustaqil,

when doing your suggested way, copying updated documents from the group into my library and deleting the "out of date" version immediately kills my references from the word plugin, because each entry has a unique identifier that is lost when deleting the "out of date" version. Thats why we need a real synchronization (on demand and with review option). For now it is horrible to have lots of "Document Not In Library" Quotes in your Word document, just after updating some documents in Mendeley.

    Thanks in advance,
    Adrian
