        Hello Ozan, Aksel,

We did add a set of new types since this ticket was first opened over 2 years ago, that is why this is listed as 'completed'. Please create a new thread if you want to request additional types.

      • OzanOzan commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

I have to agree with Aksel. This shouldn't be listed as completed, since it is not.

I really need additional document types. This is the only reason I may be forced to leave Mendeley. Please add the types that are in zotero too such as blog posts, email communication, as well as tweets.

        Hello everybody,

as you might have noticed this thread is marked "completed" by the admins, and Mustaqil wrote in his post that new requests should be filed separately. So why you guys don't consider voting on this one
        http://feedback.mendeley.com/forums/4941-mendeley-feedback/suggestions/374385-manually-manage-types-to-make-them-coherent-with?ref=title
as people are discussing there to manually manage document types. There is also a new thread for more document types where users are compiling a list of requested types.
        http://feedback.mendeley.com/forums/4941-mendeley-feedback/suggestions/301288-additional-document-type?ref=title
So in case you want your idea to be considered it'd be great everyone moves his/her request there.

Important type of document is missed - books published in serials. Currently it is impossible to add book volume information into document details. I'd suggest to update 'book' and 'book section' document types with fields: 'volume', 'issue', 'series title' and others, which correspond to serial monographs.

"Personal Communication" would be useful, as I think would something like "Conference Presentation" (as opposed to actual published "Conference Proceedings" or "Working Paper".

Version 0.9.5.2 did add more types (thank goodness). Still, there's plenty of room for improvement. Please consider adding the following in the next version:

        audio recording
        email
        instant message
        forum post
        podcast
        video recording

        +1 for this.
Also why some of the fields in the document types are always enabled? I use the automatic export feature of bib files and I don't need some fields like Files etc.
This should be fully customizable by the user.

Why don't you add a "what you want" document type ? Cause so many people want their own... it would be simpler

Or add "Supplementary Material" (would be useful)

The new document types are great, though I am missing 'personal communication', 'digital/electronic' (downloaded or from e.g. CD) and user-defined document types.

I agree! I understand we're trying to compile scholarly journal articles in this online networking site, but for my personal research, I need Mendeley to compile all my research sources which do not only include scholarly journal articles or working papers. In particular, could we also have the following types: newspaper, magazine, website, institutional report, and interview? Thank you!

Agreed on this. The current list is very limiting. Why not add functionality so that users can add arbitrary document types? Also, will there be additional fields added in the next release? Certain things, like day of the month, are frustratingly absent. How do I cite a speech or presentation?
