Avoid Mendeley to freeze on importing a complete folder

Currently, Mendeley freeze (i.e. it shows a white screen) when importing a complete folder. It seems, that the PDF import is done in the UI thread.

        Hello,

The problem is not the importing itself but scanning for files (which can take a long time if you select a folder with many sub-folders) and checking each file to see if has already been imported. Both of these operations are done in a background thread for the next release so the UI will remain responsive - possibly with slight pauses when imported documents are added to the database.

What is going on here? I have had similar problems with importing many documents at the same time. The processor and memory aren't doing much, but the hard drive is getting hit really hard.
