Download all cited references from within one article
We often need to also read the original papers cited by the article i'm currently reading - especially when reading reviews or when reviewing an article pre-pubication. it would be SUCH great help if Mendeley would let me select certain papers and source all the citations used in those papers for me!

"Read priority"
Add a "read priority" label (may be priorities 1-10). User can sort by priorities to see which papers to read first.
Sometimes I download papers and think that I have to read this. But I forget later. If this tag is there, I can see which docs I need to read sorted by their priorities assigned by me at the time of download. You could also add a deadline (or "read by this date") associated with this feature. This will help user to plan his readings. Probably all the readings could be shown in a calendar like format.
This will…

Advanced options to rename PDFs
When automatically renaming PDFs, sometimes file names result too long (with potential compatibility issues). In the PDF renaming menu, you can add:
- a Field to determine the max characters of file names
- Options to replace blank spaces and special characters: so f.ex. that ' ' turns into '_', and 'á' turns into 'a'50 votes -
Allow PDF import directly from a URL
I have occasionally wanted to import a PDF file from a link. Currently, you have to right-click, choose save file, give it a name, then switch to Mendeley and click import. Would it not be nice if I could paste the URL directly into Mendeley and it would fetch the PDF directly? This would also enable another feature. If I am reading a PDF file in the reader plugin in my browser and I click my "Import to Mendeley" bookmarklet, the bookmarklet tries to import from the current URL which points to the PDF file. If Mendeley could handle links…

Add an option in the Mendeley Plugin for Word to correctly count the number of words in the document
At present, when you do a word count in Word, the fields in Word are not counted correctly, so if you highlight a citation the Word count may not accurately display the number of Words in that citation (it counts the field code, rather than the text the user sees). This is a problem with Microsoft Word, and Mendeley are not able to directly resolve this issue.
However, it may be possible to create a button in the plugin which counts the text in the Word document without the citations and possibly add the citation number. If you would like…

Constrain file names when using automated naming schema to match file system requirements
In automated naming conventions I am using author, year, title. Using this convention, titles get excessively long. It would be good to either automatically detect the file system or let the user determine the maximum length in characters for a file name. I have run into issues of putting files into subdirectories or the trash on NTFS as a result of names being too long.

Add dedicated for JStor articles
Mendeley seems very poor at extracting metadata from articles downloaded from Jstor, presumably becasue of the additional Jstor page tagged on the front.
Perhaps Jstor articles could be recognised as such, and parsed differently?

Provide option for offline only mode
It would be great if we can have an option for working offline. This will give us peace of mind that we don't accidentally share the stuff that we are not ready to share (by clicking on the wrong links or buttons).

conference and event calendar
To improve the social aspect and usefullness of Mendeley, it would be cool if there was a conference calendar, where you could show people what you were up to, and where. This could be expanded to show on a global map, where conferences are happening, make suggestions to which conferences may be interesting to check out etc.
Eventually it could be a good idea for conferences to make their own Mendeley conference groups holding invited papers, presentations etc.

Tag cloud in the desktop application
Displaying a tag cloud in the desktop application would be nice.

Ability to split the pdf view (like word) so that can look at references without having to scroll
Similar to MS word's split view feature, so that a bit of the screen can be used to look at the references while the rest can be used for reading the paper, so that can see what the references are while reading without having to scroll all the way down and then back to where you were reading

Import text files created by PubMed
Although the web importer is awesome, it is cumbersome to use it when exporting several references from PubMed. PubMed can export several references to a .txt file in 'MEDLINE' format, which is not exactly a RIS format that Mendeley can handle. Importing this kind of text files would be a great tool for Mendeley desktop. Thanks.

support files larger than 50MB
I have many Ph.D. theses in my document library. Some of them are over 50MB. I'd like to have them stored with the rest of my document library in Mendeley.

allow bibtex copy & paste
Exporting and importing bibtex files is fine, but what would really make my life easier is if there was a third tab next to Details and Notes that would just have an editable text field that contains the bibtex entry so that I can quickly copy it into, say, an email to a colleage. Also, I'd like to be able to use it to add information that was not correctly picked up from a PDF or from a website.
Very much related: often times you get Bibtex citations and I'd like to not handle files for those but just copy…

Create an "Enhance PDF" option like ReadCube has. I love Mendeley, but that feature is so cool!!!
This would pull up a list of citations in the article currently being read on the side (so the reader wouldn't have to scroll down mid-read to find them) and give the reader the option to download these directly.

in APA format, there should be a hanging indent for the references and the statute citation is wrong
44 votesThe original issue mentioned here has been resolved. Please be specific about any remaining problems you find with Mendeley’s APA formatting.

improve metadata extraction from ADS
The automatic metadata extraction form NASA ADS needs improvement - essentially every paper I import I have to go in and manually add a DOI to get the important data included despite that fact that it's very easy to get ADS entries including the DOI in an easy-to-parse XML format (just add ?data_type=XML to any article). Furthermore, keywords are never imported, even when they are clearly present.

Synchronize with BibSonomy
Hi, why not easily adding synchronization with BibSonomy (http://bibsonomy.org/) like you did with CiteULike?

fix bug when title contains special characters
When the title of the paper has some special characters (such as ":" or "$") Mendeley cannot save it proprely, it would be nice to fix that problem
