  1. Keep 'My Library' tab visible at all times

    Have the 'My Library tab permanently affixed and visible to the left side of the tab bar. This means that one does not need to scroll back along the tab bar to access the library

  2. Review/correct DOI looked up metadata before overwriting existing

    When I want to import more metadata via DOI lookup that will overwrite the existing metadata. For example if I have an entry with author Silverstein, Michael, and perform a DOI lookup and for that particular journal there are only the initials in the database then it will overwrite the author field with Silverstein, M. It would be great to have an option to check/correct what would be overwritten beforehand.

  3. make it easier to switch users in Mendeley desktop

    We have two Mendeley users at our home using the same Desktop account (different file stores). It would be useful to have a login/logout process for settings/watched folders/Mendeley web etc.

  4. introduce a link shortening service

    With so much information to be found on the internet it often is necessary and/or helpful to the reader to cite web content - be it excerpts of cited documents on Google Books or entire documents which often don't have e.g. a doi number. Yet, the regarding URLs often are extremely long and thus bulky if printed in a footnote. They are also cumbersome to copy for the reader.

    A link shortener fit to serve scientific needs would be a solution. This would require a provider dedicated to supporting scientific research and publishing which could credibly guarantee for the unaltered…

  5. Summary based on highlighted text

    It would be awesome if Mendeley create a summary of the text we highlight throughout a PDF file.... It would save time on typing the notes.

  6. More read/unread status - unread, halfread, quick-read, fully read, etc.

    Doing research, sometimes you don't read the full paper, just make a quick overview, and maybe you will get back to read it carefully. It would be useful to mark the read-status

  7. Mirror folder structure between Mendeley Desktop, Mendeley Web, and computer hard drive

    Mendeley Desktop is expected to be a "resource organiser" which allows to store and retrieve bibliographical information along with attached files if any - using both my desktop computer and online storage.

    Unfortunately, it cannot effectively play this role today with these limitations:

    (1) No matter how paintakingly you organise hundreds of your sources and files in Mendeley Desktop into folders, the entire structure simply disappears when synced with online storage. What you get to see online resembles more of Facebok's timeline than an "organiser".

    SOLUTION: Entry/folder structure should be mirrored between MDesktop and MWeb (both in the main library…

  8. BibTeX export: Missing required field "note" in unpublished items

    Not only the required field is missing - Mendeley seems not to support the field "note" at all.

    there are missing options to decide when and for what to connect (or sync) with the Internet - the user should always have the choice to update, when he/she likes !

  10. Duplicates on shared folders

    Duplicates are generated on shared group folders by dragging the same local entry twice into it.

    This could be prevented by simply checking doi etc. against the entries already present there.

    I our group this frequently happens as all coworkers are ask to put copies of their papers into a shared folder. Please fix this.

  11. Shortcuts to change metadata field character cases (sentence case, title case, etc)

    Since there seems to be some confusion amongst the Mendeley user population about the proper way to case article titles vs journal titles, imported article titles sometimes appear in title case and very often journal titles are in sentence case. What would be handy would be a simple addition to the context menu for these fields which would allow me to quickly change the contents of the field to sentence case (only the first character of the field capitalized), title case (first character of major words capitalized), all lower and all upper.   12. Fix Hotkeys so they work in fullscreen mode.

    Hotkeys for selecting highlight, add note, select text, etc. don't work when in fullscreen mode. This is when they are most needed. Also, a hotkey should be added to return to pan mode. Removing the ctrl modifier for hotkeys would make them better as well (e.g. pressing "h" to switch to highlight mode, rather than ctrl+h.

  13. Link to mendeley entries from other apps

    Provide a url that can be used to link into mendeley from other applications (eg. evernote/onenote, or GTD managers).

    This is useful for keeping data connected between apps

  15. Mac Word 2008 footnote plugin bugs

    When adding a citation to a footnote in Word 2008 for Mac, I've run into a consistent problem when adding a footnote into the document which will precede other already-added footnotes. I have to insert a paragraph return into the footnote before running the script, otherwise the citation is somehow appended to the footnote below it.

    Additionally italics are not properly applied in footnotes when using any form of Chicago style - the <i></i> tags remain visible instead of being converted.

  16. Reset the online database

    Reset the database kept on mendeley's server, from the website and within the medeley desktop. Sometimes the whole thing just gets messed up and u would like to keep all of ur profile data, contacts, etc. just want to refresh ur publication list. Without the possibility of reseting the online database the system always gets the corrupted data from the server.

  17. create a separate tag tree for better filtering of papers

    Often it's useful to filter papers by tag and author, this isn't possible with the current system. If a tag tree is represented in a way similar to windows live photo gallery it would allow the possibility of sub-tags and drag and dropping of papers on to tags which would greatly extend the usefulness of tags.

  18. "Update file location" dialogue

    When I move the file or change its directory name, the program loses track of it and understandably so. However, when I click on the pdf icon in the program it would be nice if it displayed something like the following: "Cannot locate file". Then it could display a window showing the current directory with a browse button to allow user to reestablish the link.

  19. Add Scientific Poster as a document type

    Many scientists are passing around posters from conferences as .pdf documents. Add "Poster" to the Type: section in the right-hand panel.

  20. to open documents (pdf) from last session!

    This would be a convenient feature, because someone is able to just start working where he/she left. Additionally, this saves time.
