Improve supplementary information management
Mendeley can attach multiple files to a document reference, hence allowing to add suplementary information files to original papers. However, it would be valuable if a more specific "supplementary information files" section was there. For instance the supplementary pdf's could have a proper name, not just a numbered copy of the paper's name. They could also be searched and displayed distinctly from main articles which I guess could be useful.

Synchronization between files in My Library & Shared Groups
Synchronize tags, notes, etc between identical files in My Library and Shared Groups
226 votesThis has been logged with our Development Team to investigate inclusion in a future version of Mendeley.

Better support for Asian characters like Chinese and Japanese
Mendeley crash every time when there are Chinese character in the PDF file, I think it's really boring. I think it is a requirement to support these documents. If you need any documents to do some experiments, you can contact me.
223 votesThere should be no problems with adding PDFs with Chinese/Japanese characters into Mendeley, nor with citing them or exporting them to .bib or .ris files. The only problem that is left is with characters not being displaying correctly when exported. If there are additional problems with Chinese/Japanese characters, please contact Mendeley Support.

Export annotations, e.g. tags and notes, like a single text file (.doc, .pdf, .txt)
Sometimes it is necessary to keep a file to print or for other purposes. So, I think that is necessary a way to export these personal annotations (tags and notes, for example) to a single text file.
218 votesThis has been raised with our Development Team to discuss having this as a possibility for a future build.

add Dropbox interface to link DB to web-stored files
I've linked my local pdf store, that Mendeley indexes, to Dropbox - https://www.getdropbox.com/referrals/NTk5NzE0Mjk - because that synchronises my PDFs across the many PCs I work on, and allows me web-access to them from anywhere else, too. A way to link from Mendeley to my Dropbox store would be great - perhaps the field that stores local links to PDFs could also take URLs?
212 votesThe short answer is not to use Dropbox and Mendeley to try to sync the same set of files, in the same location between two PCs. If you want to keep a set of files in sync between two PCs, use either Dropbox or Mendeley but don’t use both – at least, not with the current version of Mendeley.
What you can do is separate out the files you want to sync – put your papers in Mendeley and let it sync them and put work-in-progess papers, experimental data and other information in Dropbox.
The problem with having Mendeley and Dropbox trying to sync the same folder is that Mendeley on system A makes a change (eg. renaming a file), Dropbox syncs that over to the other computer and then the file link on the other computer gets broken – so Mendeley will re-download the file on the next sync.

Improve BibTeX export with special characters
BibTeX export has issues with multiple special characters when exported, I believe an easy fix would be to add surround all escaped or modified stuff with {}.
Example, the swedish letter "å" is exported to "\aa " which contains an extra space, just using "{\aa}" would fix the issue.209 votesThis is something that we are planning to look into for 1.8, as we are aware it is causing a lot of problems for a lot of people.

Add preview of the first PDF pages to the metadata pane.
This was in 0.5.x and was very useful.
It should show the first page of the PDF (possibly flashblock-style to improve speed), with the option of navigating to later pages (sometimes the first page is a useless copyright notice).
Would be good if you can use it to click on the DOI (if it wasn't detected).

insert citation slow in big papers
if have 100+ references (and i will soon have 500+ references in my thesis), then after adding a new citation into text i had to wait about 20 seconds before i could use Word again ...
Zotero has a similar problem, maybe even longer lag, but this really inhibits serious work
206 votesHi Adrian,
Thank you very much for take a look in the VBA code and send us a patch, we will maybe play with it.
We have different ideas how to speed up the plugin process and and we keep in mind your patch as well.

Make a Windows 8/RT metro app for Mendeley
PDF viewer with annotation/highlight features
Search integration to locate papers in library
Share integration to send papers/annotations to contacts/group
Device integration to allow printing of papers/annotations
Secondary tiles for quick access to library folders and live group updates
Academic profile and groups management
Link Mendeley network contacts to People app
202 votesMendeley Desktop is supported under Windows 8, but not Windows RT. If you’re planning to buy a Windows-based tablet and you want to run Mendeley on it, get one running Windows 8 (not Windows RT). We’re not planning to work on a ‘Metro’ app ourselves in the near future.

Open file externally by default
User should have the option to open all files externally by default (i.e. double click a file, it opens in Adobe or Foxit or whatever).

Print an Annotated Bibliography
I would like to be able to print an annotated bibliography using the citation style of my choice followed by anything I have entered in the "notes" box for the records I select.

Should add existing metadata fields to the file rename tool.
You already extract pages, volumes, etc. Why not include this in the file renaming tool?
189 votesThis has been raised with our Development Team and would probably coincide with work on the File Organizer.

Option to save my highlights and comments in the PDF documents themselves.
The comment and highlighting functions in Mendeley are great. However, I would like to have the option to save these changes straight into the pdf. The markups are very important for me in my work and I'm afraid that they will all be gone if I should for some reason loose my Mendeley installation. Additionally that way I can send that pdf and my collegues will see my markups. At this point I'm still doing my markups in another program because I know they are safe there (saved inside the pdf document). I don't have that feeling with Mendeley yet.
180 votesThe ability to do this automatically is not yet available. However, it has been raised with our Development Team

Version for Windows Phone 7
Hello,
since you have already a version for the iPhone and iPad and are working on an Android version, how about a version for Windows Phone 7? Since it has full Microsoft Office capabilitis Mendeley would be a very useful application for editing manuscripts on the go!173 votes

With the new iOS app we’re building, we are using our public API for everything, which has allowed us to make improvements which enable third parties to develop clients for other platforms such as WP7 much more easily.
We simply don’t have the resource yet to tackle this in-house though. I’m keeping this request open anyway so that we can complete it if an enterprising developer gets a working version up and running.

View PDF two pages at once
Mendeley views PDFs in one-page continuous mode. Let's be able to also read two pages a time. In Adobe's software, this is called "Two-Up Continuous." This would be helpful for users with wide computer screens.
168 votesAlthough this is not possible at the moment, you are able to zoom out so that you can see one page on top of another. We appreciate this is not ideal as it makes reading very difficult. Our Development Team are aware of the request.

bibtex integration should be bidirectional with .bib file
Integration with a BibTex file shoud go both ways: if I update my library in Mendeley, I get a update .bib file, and if I update a .bib file, I get my library updated.
We should have the possibility to choose a .bib file to use like this. Also, I noticed that many latex characters aren't correctly parsed, like í (\'i).

Ability to set external pdf viewer
I would like to have the ability to choose which pdf viewer to use to read papers.
I think a similar feature request was closed a couple of weeks ago ("allow to set which pdf viewer to use") with the suggestion of changing the default pdf viewer for the system.
However, I have multiple pdf viewers installed: a lightweight one that I use for most pdfs, and a more complete one with the ability to highlight and take notes that I use for reading papers. The former is my system defaults, but I would like to use the latter in…
164 votesThere appear to be two issues here: the first is the one reported, whereby mirko.montanari would like to have the option to view PDFs though different browsers.
The second is the ability to have ‘Open Externally’ as default. If this is what you are voting/commenting for, please go here: http://feedback.mendeley.com/forums/4941-general/suggestions/216079-ability-to-set-external-pdf-viewer
Eiher way, both tickets have been raised with our Development Team.

Let users customize the font
Please let users be able to customize the font of mendeley desktop. Now the default font is a little small and not beautiful.
163 votesOur Development Team are aware of this request. Some people have mentioned problems with not being able to see text on the Mendeley Desktop screen. If this is the case, please contact Support as this should not happen.

add "insert citation" support for Bibtex in Lyx/Kile via lyxpipe
Support pushing bibtex citations to Latex editors via a mechanism called lyxpipe. Several editors use lyxpipe, I know at least of Lyx and Kile.
Check here for a good explanation of lyxpipe:
http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/537/lyx-support/161 votesThis has been raised with our Development Team. In the meantime we can release documentation of our citation insertion API if you would like to make your own. Please contact Mendeley Support if you are interested.
