Allow custom metadata fields and entry types
It would be great to have more metadata fields like "translator" or "bookauthor" (for the latter see this entry:
http://feedback.mendeley.com/pages/general/suggestions/128219-add-bookauthor-field
and as well more entry types, like a "review" type or splitting the "Book Section" type into "incollection" (chapter of an edited collection) and "inbook" (chapter of a book by one single author).
I'm using the LaTeX terms here and I think this request probably goes together with some others to enhance LaTeX compatibility (like a synched bibtex file).
It might be worth to have a look at the BibLaTeX-Project for inspiration, which to me sounds like a very interesting…114 votesThis has been raised with our Development Team

Show unique identifier as number next to every entry
I have a printout copy of many of my PDF files. Each printout is labeled with a unique number on the top right corner and stored in a ordered way.
Whenever I look for a paper:
1. I open my digital library organizer
2. I search the paper and find what is the number associated to it
3. Go to my paper library and pick paper number N.I wish this could be done with Mendeley (sounds pretty easy to implement)

enable multiple distinct bibliographies in a single document (e.g., separate chapters)
Many users may benefit from the ability to manage separate and distinct bibliographies in single document file. For example, if a file is a book/dissertation/etc with multiple chapters and the author wants to gather references after each chapter.

Full-text search in My Library on Mendeley Web
At the moment, there is no search functionality in My Library on Mendeley Web. It should support full-text search like in Mendeley Desktop.
111 votesThis has been suggested to our Web Team, however, it would be very difficult to implement and may be quite time consuming for our relatively small team. However, there are plans to completely overhaul the online library which may introduce a similar feature.

sort order of publications in web library
the web version of the library always sorts the publications alphabetically in the title, it would be nice to be able to change that option, and be able to sort publications by date, date added, authors, journal, most frequently read (by yourself and others), most citations, etc...

Snapshot tool for capturing figures in PDF viewer
It would be convenient to have a tool that copies an area of the pdf that you select and send it to clipboard as an image.
This would be useful when preparing presentation slides and you want to cite figures from other publications.
108 votesAn interesting idea. I have raised it with our Development Team to consider the possibility of including this in a future version.

Sorting search results
If you could come up with a way to sort search results according to year, publication etc
108 votesThis is a known problem: you cannot sort the search results at present like you can without the search. Our Developers are aware of the issue and are looking into it.

allow tags to be deleted or renamed
I would like to be able to delete (or rename) tags from the tag list. In my case I discovered I had two tags the really meant the same thing, and had to delete the extra tag from each document where it was applied instead of just from the tag list itself.

allow split-screen view of imported pdfs
I find references while reading a document and want to be able to view them without scrolling back and forth from the content to endnotes.

User Control over Desktop-Web Synchronization
When ever I start Mendeley it automatically start Desktop-Web Synchronization, there is no option to stop it. I want to Synchronization when I want, when I have high speed net at office place, not at home where speed is very low.

Add an option to disable double curly brackets around titles in BibTeX
BibTeX automatically capitalises titles according to the bibliography style, however this doesn't work when using the BibTeX file produced by Mendeley as it puts double curly brackets around titles to force capitalisation. This is obviously done so that users don't have to put curly brackets around words like acronyms that do require certain capitalisation, but it can mean that the list of references may have a mix of titles with the first letters of all words capitalised and some not if the titles in Mendeley aren't consistent (which they usually aren't).
It would be great if Mendeley could have an…

Create plugins for Word, Powerpoint, Wordpress, e-mail
It would be great if I was able to cite my references not only in Word, but also in Powerpoint (when I prepare presenations), and in Wordpress (for blogposts) and in e-mails

Include search for no tags
I'd like to search for citations I haven't tagged yet. Especially to monitor automatic updates from watched folders.

Minimize Mendeley Desktop to Notification area
For Windows: Would it be possible to have the option to keep Mendeley running in the background and when minimized, put into the notification area (bottom right hand corner)?

Make references within a paper in the library searchable
Some times you want to search for a reference you know is in one of your papers, although you can't remember in which paper. Instead of manually going through all the papers and looking at the reference list of each, it would be great if Mendeley could search all papers in you library for the reference you are looking for.

"Search by Title" no longer working - Google Scholar blocked?
After importing a few papers with Windows 7 (x64) the "Search by Title" feature now quietly fails for me as well. I suspect this has something to do with Google Scholar blocking automatic queries to the service, since I now must enter a Captcha while visiting that site.
90 votesWe release this is a problem and are looking for ways to fix it. Unfortunately once Google Scholar starts asking for a Captcha there is no way to stop it doing so, so the problem will continue. We are looking into possible fixes.

RSS reader in Mendeley Web
In my statistics tab, or a new tab for discovery, I'd love to be able to browse my own feeds, and have Mendeley generate some that may be of interest to me. For example, Mendeley could provide TOC of my top journals (working with ticTOCs?), and I'd also want the ability to add feeds of subject or citation alerts, etc.
