Improve support for citation keys!
For example, automatically generating missing citation keys based on AuthorYear, rename pdfs based on citation key, show citation key in the main window, and find duplicates (mentioned elsewhere).
67 votes1 – Citation keys are automatically generated if missing on export to BibTeX
2 – It is possible to show the citation key in the Details pane by enabling it under Options → Document Details
3 – Using the citation key to rename files in the file organizer is not implemented. This has been logged with our development team.
4 – A warning when multiple documents have the same key is not implemented, but you can now search by citation key using “citationkey:”

Zotero-like Firefox & Chrome extensions
I'm a blogger and online article publisher. I realize Mendeley is incorporating support for Zotero, although unfortunately Zotero doesn't appear to be doing the same for Mendeley. The Zotero developers aren't interested in a Chrome extension for Zotero anytime soon either. But I would really like a Zotero-like Mendeley extension for Chrome especially (now my primary browser), but also Firefox, for both creating bibliographic entries in Mendeley and also inserting them and citations into web forms like Google Docs and WordPress for posts and pages.

Synchronize with the Mac Papers application (mekentosj.com)
The Mac application Papers has many useful features for building and maintaining personal libraries of publications. Would be very helpful for users to have one combined library rather than a Papers library and a Mendeley library.

integrate mendeley with Google Drive....the SDK/API was announced yesterday and has the potential to be really powerful
See: https://developers.google.com/drive/
Files can be stored on Mendeley's servers but listed and indexed in individuals' Google Drives (the new name for Google Docs). Thus people can keep all their cloud services in one searchable virtual place.63 votesThis has been raised with our Development Team

Retrieve 'document details' for patents from web using patent number
On Document Details tab, the default search engine to fetch detail information for a paper is Google Scholar. It would be nice to instead use Google Patents "www.google.com/patents" or the uspto website "http://patft.uspto.gov/" when 'Patent' is selected for document type and the patent number is entered manually.

Add journal table of content browsing
My primary method of article discovery (other than when searching ISI and Google scholar) is subscribing to journal RSS feeds and browsing them in Google reader. There would be some big advantages to integrating this with Mendeley (probably in the web interface, not the desktop). First, it would make it really easy to flag new articles as I discover them, perhaps placing them in a "my reading list" or "papers of interest" queue. Second, this would facilitate adding these papers to my Mendeley database (while allowing me to discard those I am not interested in). Third, it would allow Mendeley…

Add a list of all PDF text annotations to record summary under the Tag&Notes section or a new tab
It would be very useful if one would be able to see all of the annotations, notes and highlighted text in a list without having to open the PDF and go page by page. This way, one could highlight the most important parts of a document and see all of this text when clicking on the record. In the future this could be tied into citing specific sections of documents where Mendeley could automatically insert page number if a specific document section that was highlighted/annotated needs to be cited.

Back & forward buttons in PDF reader
Could be usefull to navigate between your previous position within the PDF. It would be even more necessary if you make the hyperlinks within the PDF operational.

Application for the PocketBook e-book reader
It will be great to have the Mendeley application for the PocketBook e-reader. To synchronize the collection of articles along with all associates notes through the cable or online.
NB: PocketBook is the only one completely pdf-friendly e-book reader, especially 903 model which I use.
PS: GPL license for the Mendeley could resolve this problem also.59 votes -
Three "notes" fields per record, not one
One for the author's abstract (if any), one for public notes by the collector about the article and one for the collector's private notes about the article (which might include candid or critical thoughts they would not want to share). Meanwhile by default the "notes" field should only contain the abstract. When I imported from my Endnote XML file it imported my (candid) "notes" field in preference to the abstract when both were available.

supporting right-to-left languages
It would be very helpful if mendeley could support the option of:
1. non-Latin languages citation formats - when you don't use English articles the program still using terms like "In" or "eds" and I have to fix it.
2. Supporting Left to Right languages like Hebrew and Arabic.58 votesThis has been raised with our Development Team

Better citation editing for Word
The options are limited at the moment. While allowing to suppress the author in v1.6 went a little way to help, you should also be able to do the same with the year and leave only the authors name this time. The ability to hide parenthesis would help with writing, while still allowing you have enough control over the citation.

Cover images for books
It would be great to automatically get cover images of books (by isbn) and display them with the books in result lists - kind of virtual bookshelf.

add options to search and filter on metadata within the iPad app
in the iPad app at the moment you can either look at "Recently Added" and then browse the papers alphabetically or look at a collection. It would be great if we could sort on "Date added" and also filter using tags as I don't remember the title of each paper, but I do want to read the one I added this morning....
56 votesOnce the new iPad app is released, features such as advanced search and browse by tag will follow shortly after in a point release.
We appreciate your patience.
