  1. Can change the background color of pdf document

The default background color of the pdf document is white. Sometime it seems too bright. If we can turn it darker, maybe it will be better for our eyes.

  4. Better proxy configuration through .PAC (like Firefox)

Our companies proxy settings are deployed through an automatic proxy configuration file like this:

    http://w3.sirona.org/prconf.pac

Firefox and IE support this without problem.

I thought maybe i could enter the content of this file manually - but this did not work.

The content of the PAC File is more or less:

    return "PROXY proxy.sirona.org:8080";

Entering "proxy.sirona.org" with "port 8080" manually in the Mendeley Settings did not work.

This way i cant use the sync function which was more or less the reason why i would like to use Mendeley.

    I hope you can help.

    Stefan

  5. import and export Skim notes, highlights

Skim (skim-app.sourceforge.net) provides an open standard for PDF notes/highlights that could be used by Mendeley (c.f. EagleFiler which has managed to integrate them).

  8. add button to force bibtex sync

I like the feature to automatically generate bibtex files from collections. However, it isn't clear to me when these files are generated. I usually use collections per paper I'm writing, and then reference the generated bibtex file in the Latex I write.

As I write, I often add items from my library to the collection as I realize I need new references. I would like to then force sync the bibtex-collection link so I can use the new reference.

Can you make it clear how these things are synced and when?

  9. rank documents

Among all documents I have in database not all have the same importance or worth reading.
It would be nice to have ranking system, especially for shared groups to point the attention of other people in the group to the paper.

Similarly, I tag mainly the interesting papers that I would like to find easily later. Having a highlighting og those papers in the full list might be useful.

  10. Allow the maximum file size to be greater than 50 Mb

The maximum file size is too short for pdf's of large books that contain plates. The file can be uploaded but doesn't sync. I think this is very annoying.

  11. "Read priority"

Add a "read priority" label (may be priorities 1-10). User can sort by priorities to see which papers to read first.

Sometimes I download papers and think that I have to read this. But I forget later. If this tag is there, I can see which docs I need to read sorted by their priorities assigned by me at the time of download. You could also add a deadline (or "read by this date") associated with this feature. This will help user to plan his readings. Probably all the readings could be shown in a calendar like format.

    This will…

  12. Warn of duplicate Citation Key

It is currently possible to enter a Citation Key that is already in use. This is extremely dangerous for anyone using bibtex since it can lead to confusion and incorrect citations. The interface should at least warn of the duplication, and ideally fix it by appending a letter at the end of the key (e.g. Smith98a). [Note: The Citation Key is normally not visible. It has to be manually enabled by going into Tools -> Options -> Metadata Fields.]

  13. Support nbib file format for import.

the NLM just released the ability for PubMed to export citations. The file format is nbib. Please have Mendeley support this file format.

  14. Add support for multitouch gestures to the Mac version of Mendeley desktop

Specifically I would like to be able to use the zoom and scroll through pages multitouch gestures in the PDF reader that is integrated on Mendeley desktop. I am using a MBP, but I guess that people using the new Apple mouse might also be interested.

  15. Export highlighted text as well

At the moment, the "Export PDF with Annotations" option will only export notes, not highlighted text. You can get around this by making a note with the highlighted text, but this is very time consuming.

Also, highlighted text should(or there should be an option to) appear in the Annotations tab.

  16. Sync into local file organizer folder

I work on two computers at office and at home. I want that any change I make on one computer appears the same on the other. So I checked "sync attached files" for my entire library and set a local folder to "organize my file".

For now, if I add an article (w/pdf) in computer A, then when I open Mendeley on computer B I'll see it synced in my library. However, the problem is that the corresponding PDF file is not synced into my local folder on computer B, instead, it's stored automatically in "AppData\Local\Mendeley Ltd\Mendeley Desktop\Downloaded" folder. This…

  17. Import EndNote record numbers

I would love to be able to import my record numbers from EndNote. Currently all my paper journals are filed by EndNote record number, I would really like to at least be able to import them. Even better would be to have someway of incorporating them into a new numbering system with a Mendeley number so I can continue with them under Mendeley

  18. Selecting images in PDF's

There is many pdf files where text exist like an image. so "Select text" option didn't work. You can only "Add note". I think that possibility for selecting images, or some areas, (than adding tags, or even extracting selected things as for example jpgs) would be very valuable.

  19. Allow PDF import directly from a URL

I have occasionally wanted to import a PDF file from a link. Currently, you have to right-click, choose save file, give it a name, then switch to Mendeley and click import. Would it not be nice if I could paste the URL directly into Mendeley and it would fetch the PDF directly? This would also enable another feature. If I am reading a PDF file in the reader plugin in my browser and I click my "Import to Mendeley" bookmarklet, the bookmarklet tries to import from the current URL which points to the PDF file. If Mendeley could handle links…

  20. Add dedicated for JStor articles

Mendeley seems very poor at extracting metadata from articles downloaded from Jstor, presumably becasue of the additional Jstor page tagged on the front.

Perhaps Jstor articles could be recognised as such, and parsed differently?
