There should also be an option to synchronize the file path via the web account without having to sync the attached file itself. When synchronizing on a different machine, Mendeley should link to that filepath automatically if the file exists.

I also think this is very important. In combination with automatic addition of papers into the mendeley library and automatic downloading of pdf if possible this would make an awesome feature.
This request has been marked as "started". So can we expect this to come in the next release? -

@Charlotte: is there any roadmap for the API? What features are planned for the near future? Read/Unread status, favorites, two-way sync, notes and annotations would be important to efficiently work with papers on a tablet

I agree with previous comments. I heavily use the internal reader and annotation features of Mendeley Desktop. Further the sorting options by year and read/unread status are very useful. There are some really interesting android tablets on the market and more coming in 2012, however, without a fully functional Mendeley app it doesn't make much sense. If it is possible to open the API to allow the development of internal pdf readers and syncing as well as adding annotations and importing new pdf documents to Mendeley I am fine with that.
I personally think that Mendeley Desktop is working just perfectly and I cannot really think of new must-have features (except for printing from within Mendeley Desktop), but I would mainly use Mendeley on a tablet.

Please reconsider developing an android app. Currently, the absence of a real mendeley app is the only reason not getting an android tablet. Third party apps will always be limited by the possibilities of the API. For example Read/Unread and Favorites are obviously not possible, which would be a very important feature.

Hi Robert,
thanks for your fast reply.

From the Droideley Blog:
"As far as I know, it is not possible to download the pdf attached to the documents in the library via the MendeleyAPI yet."
Due to the limitations of the MendeleyAPI third-party apps can never reach the full functionality...

Dear Mendeley Developers,
please reconsider developing an app for android. This is the 2nd ranked feature and top ranked without any status. Even though the iPad is the most popular tablet so far, there is a number of new android-based tabs available, such as the ARCHOS 10.1, Acer Iconia Tab A500, Motorola Xoom, Asus EeePad Transformer, Samsung Galaxy Tab, HTC Flyer Tablet. Several of them are really good and offer advantages over the iPad, such as USB host.

I think saving the Document Details as well as Tags/Notes, maybe even annotations, to the PDF would make it also easier working with multiple computers and/or operating systems. It would then be possible to add new files to Mendeley and input all the data on one machine. Then simply copy the file to the second machine and import it with completely correct data. The web uplook of reference information works very well, but by far not perfect.
It would be even better if the collection name would also be included in the PDF meta data and the file automatically stored in this collection.I am not familiar with the PDF format and if that is possible, but would be great!
Printing PDFs directly from Mendeley would be very nice. Now I have to open it externally first only for printing.
