Still hoping Mendeley might consider this.

robert.knight,
That's good news. It would be great to have an update of where Mendeley is, how much work is going in to updating the program, etc. I haven't begun using it as my main reference manager yet, because it doesn't really seem ready. Most of the defects/opportunities that need to be addressed are amply described in the top 50 or so requests on this unwieldy feedback forum. So... is Mendeley in active development? It's been a few years now, and many of us have high hopes to see these fixes and improvements go forward. :)

There is a program that seems to be developing this sort of functionality, called Qiqqa. (see: http://www.qiqqa.com/)
But it would really be great if we had a program with all of these functions in one place. Including: tagging portions of text, a gui that allows for easy searching across multiple documents (like QSR NVIVO, as Soren wrote), the ability to make independent notes and memos linking together ideas across papers, and, finally, how about a hierarchical tree structure for tags. Oh, and what about drag-and-drop tagging?........
This idea was first posted in 2009... What's the plan, Medeley? Thanks.
