I agree this is an issue, and it is a bit difficult to find a good solution for it. I mean:
- Duplicates at "author pane" look awful.
- But the fact is that authors sometimes change the way their name is published in different papers.
- And also, different origins or searches can provide with the same author name in different "styles" (capital letters, and so on).So, I think a solution could be an improvement / a change in the way Mendeley manages authors: letting Mendeley smartly "auto-merge" and "auto-arrange" authors according to a consistent style (that could be customized via Options menu), or letting the user marge authors by his/her own. That list of "arranged and merged" authors would appear at the "authors pane" (so you could have a REAL authors database), while author field would remain unmodified at each document record.
I hope I managed to make myself understood.
Sorry for my English mistakes.

We have added this to our list of features to add in a future version of Mendeley Desktop, and should hopefully add this in the future. Please do bear in mind that this is of lower priority at the moment, as we are working on exciting new features, but we are looking at it. Apologies for any inconvenience caused in the meantime.

In my previous comment to this feature, I was refering to this feature at Reference Manager :
http://www.refman.com/rminfo_inet.asp
You can search for a paper and have its fields imported into your database in such an easy way!

Please, Mendeley staff, copy the way "Reference Manager v12" does it: you can use a search box directly in the desktop program interface, and it searches in all the available data bases. The information/metadata retreival is said to be good.

Hello. Droideley for Android is a good beginning!!
I think it would be a very good point a fully operative Android version, similar to the desktop version, where you could also read and highlight text in PDFs and so on. Think about Android TABLETS, not only mobiles.
For example, it would be nice reading the articles I've aggregated to my "to read" folder in Mendeley on my Android tablet, and highlighting texts, and adding new notes to them... (it is just an example; I don't have an Android tablet yet).
So, Mendeley staff, please, take this idea and make it true!! :)
And I really think this is a very important and urgent improve!
