The BibTex syncing is a big step forward!! I have two comments / suggestion:
1. It is VERY important to keep titles of proceedings/journals/books consistent throughout your reference list. When maintaining a vast amount of references, this becomes a tedious job. In BibTex the concept of "strings" helps you to get the job done right and quickly. It would by extremely useful if Mendeley Desktop would allow the user to create a list of (frequency used) "Proc. Title" and "Journal" entries. Basically these fields could become drop-down lists. When importing new references MD can, for example, try to find the closest match or ask the user to add a new entry.
2. As noted by Legion the default double brackets ({{...}}) can mess things up. It would be VERY useful if one could disable this "feature".
